The Resume Builder
A free builder with a live preview that matches the PDF exactly - the three rooms it is divided into, how you download, and which parts cost credits.
The Resume Builder is free, and you need to be signed in to use it. Building, editing, designing and exporting cost nothing and are not limited by credits: all 24 templates are free, and every download is free, with no watermark. You can keep up to 10 resumes in your account.
Some of the analysis around it is paid, and this page is the honest map of which is which.
The three rooms#
A resume opens into three rooms rather than one long form:
| Room | What you do there |
|---|---|
| Content | Write. Sections, entries, bullets. |
| Design | Template, colours, type, spacing, the page, photo. |
| Improve | The build checklist, the ATS check, and the AI assists. |
Downloading is not a room. The Download button (or ⌘E) opens a dialog with four formats - Word (.docx), PDF, plain text and JSON.
The preview is beside you throughout, and it is not an approximation - exporting your resume explains why what you see is what the PDF contains.
Free, and paid#
| Resume Builder | Free. Unlimited edits and downloads, all 24 templates, no watermark. |
| AI assists inside the builder | Charged per use. See improving with AI. |
| ATS Resume Checker | Free: four checks a day signed in, one signed out. No credit price. |
| AI Resume Analyzer | The score is free: four a day signed in, one signed out, offered after the ATS check. The full report is 2 credits. |
| JD ↔ Resume Match | 3 credits |
| Resume Compare | A free tier, plus a paid AI tier at 1 credit |
| Bullet Rewriter | 1 credit |
| Cover Letter Generator | 1 credit |
How many resumes you can keep#
Ten. That is a storage bound, not a plan limit - there is no version that raises it, and no way to buy more.
Ten is comfortably above what per-application tailoring needs, because tailoring is done by duplicating a resume and hiding what does not apply, then pruning as you go. If you are at the limit, delete the ones for jobs that have closed - export anything you actually sent first, because that is the version you will be interviewed against.
Where to start#
- Bring in what you have. Import a PDF or Word file, a LinkedIn "Save to PDF" profile, or a JSON Resume file - see starting your resume.
- Fix the content before the design. A good template cannot rescue vague bullets, and the checklist in Improve tells you which ones are vague.
- Design once you have the words, because the layout follows the length.
- Download, and keep the file you sent.
