Payout accounts

The bank account your earnings are sent to - adding one, why verification exists, and what to do when a transfer fails.

Your payout account is where cleared earnings are sent. Without one, earnings still accrue - they simply have nowhere to go.

Two kinds of account#

You can be paid to a bank account or to UPI, and you can hold more than one. One is marked primary, and that is where money goes.

TypeWhat it needs
Bank accountAccount number, IFSC code, account holder name
UPIYour UPI ID

Both must be Indian and in your own name - earnings are paid in rupees into an Indian account, which is also why setting your prices in another currency is not offered.

Getting the details right#

The name on the account should match your account name. A mismatch is the most common cause of a rejected transfer, and it is rejected by the bank rather than by us - so it fails late, after the transfer has been attempted.

For UPI, confirm the ID resolves in your own UPI app before saving it here. A handle that has been deactivated looks perfectly well-formed.

Verification## Verification#

A new account is verified before it is used. Until it passes, earnings sit in Clearing rather than being transferred - they are not lost and nothing is at risk, they are waiting for somewhere to go.

When a transfer fails#

A failed payout shows as Failed on the Earnings page with the reason we were given.

  1. Read the reason. Most are a name mismatch, a closed account, or a wrong IFSC.
  2. Fix or replace the account. Correcting the details is enough; you do not need a new one unless the account itself is closed.
  3. The amount is retried. It is not written off, and you do not need to ask for it.

Money from a failed transfer is never lost. It returns to a state where it can be sent again.

Changing accounts, and the primary#

Adding an account does not switch to it - you mark it primary, and that is the switch. Holding a second account and forgetting to make it primary is why money sometimes lands where somebody did not expect.

You can replace or re-mark your payout account at any time. Anything already in progress continues to the old account - once a transfer is initiated it cannot be recalled. Anything still clearing goes to the new one.

If you are closing the old account, change the payout account first and wait for in-progress transfers to land.
