Claims about you come from your resume. Claims about the company come from the job description you pasted. Where neither said something, the letter marks a placeholder rather than filling the gap - which is why the example below has [WHY THIS COMPANY] in it instead of a paragraph of invented enthusiasm.

That is the difference between this and pasting the same posting into a chatbot. A general model will happily tell a company you admire its mission statement. A letter that praises the reader in its first line is the single most reliable signal that it was generated, and the person reading it has seen four hundred of them.

What happens to your data

Your text is redacted before it reaches any AI model: name, email, phone, address and date of birth are replaced with tokens first. The model reads your document and writes the explanations; it never chooses a number - every score is arithmetic over a fixed rubric in our own code. One input to that arithmetic is the model's reading of which skills you evidence, so we store your result and re-running the same input returns it rather than a fresh one. We never invent a figure your own material does not contain.

Every claim is grounded in something you gave it

There are only two sources of fact in this tool. What it says about you comes from your resume. What it says about the company and the role comes from the job description you pasted. That is the whole input, and nothing else is available to it.

So when a letter needs a sentence neither document supports - most often "why this company" - you get a marked placeholder instead of a guess. That looks like an unfinished letter and it is the opposite: it is the tool declining to put words in your mouth about a company you may know nothing about yet.

Why a generated letter usually reads as generated

The reliable tell is flattery. A letter that opens by admiring the company's mission, its innovative culture or its impressive growth was written by something that had no information and needed a first paragraph. The person reading it has seen several hundred of those.

The warm tone here is explicitly instructed not to do it. Warm means human - plain sentences, no corporate register - rather than complimentary. Professional is neutral and specific, which is the right default for a large company or a formal process. Direct takes the shortest path from your evidence to their requirement, which suits a startup or an application you already have a referral for.

Length is a choice, and it is checked

Short is about 180 words, which is what most recruiters actually read. Standard is about 300, and is worth using when the posting explicitly asks for a covering letter. The report shows the real word count against your target, so you find out before you paste it into an application rather than after.

One more thing the letter does that a chatbot will not: it names the requirement you do not meet. If the posting wants Kubernetes and your resume shows you have deployed to it but never run a cluster, the letter says that plainly. Volunteering the gap in writing is far better than being found out in the technical round, and it reads as confidence rather than weakness.

What this tool cannot do

It cannot research the company. It has read the job description and nothing else - no website, no news, no funding history. The placeholder where enthusiasm would go is there because that research is yours to do, and it is the single highest-value edit you can make to the output.

It cannot make you a fit for a role you are not a fit for. A letter cannot manufacture experience, and one that tried would fall apart in the first conversation.

Will it invent things about the company?

No. Everything the letter says about the company comes from the job description you pasted, and where the posting did not say enough, the letter carries a marked placeholder such as [WHY THIS COMPANY] rather than a sentence of invented enthusiasm. That placeholder is the single most valuable edit you can make afterwards - it is the one part of a covering letter that has to come from you.

How long should a covering letter be?

Shorter than most people write. The Short option targets about 180 words, which is roughly what a recruiter reads before deciding whether to open your resume, and it is the right choice unless the posting explicitly asks for a covering letter. Standard targets about 300. The report prints the actual word count against your target so you can see whether it landed.

What is the difference between the three tones?

Do you store the job descriptions I paste?

The redacted text lives inside the saved report, which is retained for twelve months. Redaction runs before anything is stored or sent onward, and it includes the recruiter's contact details from the posting - we do not keep or surface third-party contact information. Your uploaded resume is deleted after 30 days.

What if I run the same resume and posting twice?

With the same tone and length, it is free: the stored letter is returned and no credits are held. Changing the tone or the length is a different question and therefore a fresh charged run, which is deliberate - comparing a warm letter against a direct one is a normal thing to want to do.
