# Following people

> What a follow does, who gets told, why it is not a connection request, and how to unfollow without anyone knowing.

**If you are wondering whether following someone tells them, or what it changes**, this is the page.
Short answers: yes, and your feed.

## It is a subscription, not a connection

Following is one-directional. There is nothing to accept, nothing to approve, and no relationship
created between the two accounts.

That third row is the one people assume wrongly. Following somebody does not open a channel to them.

> **Note** - They are notified, by name
>
> The person you follow gets a notification saying who followed them, with a link to your profile. So
> a follow is a visible, attributable action, not a quiet bookmark.
>
> If you want to keep track of somebody privately, save their profile or a post instead - see [saved mentors](https://www.revquix.com/docs/mentorship/saved-mentors-and-interests).

You cannot follow yourself, and accounts that are deleted or disabled cannot be followed.

## What it changes

The **Following** tab on [the community feed](https://www.revquix.com/docs/writing/community) shows
posts from the people you follow, and nothing else. It is the only place a follow has an effect.

It does not change:

- What you see in For You, Trending or Latest.
- Anything about mentors, bookings or the marketplace. Following a mentor is not saving them, and
  does not affect their availability to you.
- Your own visibility. Following people does not make you more findable.

> **Warning** - An empty Following feed usually means you follow nobody who writes
>
> Plenty of members never publish. Following ten people who do not post produces a blank tab, which
> reads as broken and is not. Trending is the better tab for finding writers worth following.

## Where to follow from

Anywhere a person appears: their profile, an author byline on a post, or a result in [People search](https://www.revquix.com/docs/getting-started/people-search).

## Your followers, and who you follow

Your own counts are on your [profile](https://www.revquix.com/dashboard/profile), and both are clickable -
they open the full list, which you can search.

Your follower **count** is part of your public profile. Anyone looking at you sees the number.

## Unfollowing

Same control, pressed again. **Nobody is told when you unfollow**, and the person does not see it
happen - only the number changes. There is no block here either; unfollowing simply stops their
posts appearing in your Following tab.
