# What a tool run costs

> The four ways a tool can be priced, why running the same input twice is free, and what the daily allowance on a free tool actually is.

Most of the tools on Revquix cost nothing and never will. A small number are backed by an AI model,
and those are the ones that spend credits - because they cost us money every time they run.

**The price is on the tool's card before you open it**, and again on the button before you press it.

## The four kinds of tool

1. **Free** - no credits, no cap, no limit. Every calculator and every developer utility is this, and
   most of them do not even need an account.

2. **Free, a few times a day** - no credits and no account required, but capped per day. The ATS
   checker and the JD keyword extractor work this way.

3. **Costs credits** - needs an account, and spends credits from your balance.

4. **Free tier plus a paid tier** - a genuinely useful free result on the page, with a deeper AI pass
   available for credits alongside it.

> **Note** - Free does not always mean no account
>
> The Resume Builder is free and uncapped, and still asks you to sign in - because a document you
> cannot come back to next week is not a document. The catalogue says `Free · Sign in` rather than
> `Free` where that applies, so a badge never sends you to a login you did not expect.

## Running the same thing twice is free

If you run a tool on **the same input** you ran it on before, you are not charged again. The result
comes back immediately, and the entry in your history says it was reused rather than re-run.

There is no expiry on that. It holds until we change the tool itself - a new version of the analysis
is a genuinely different answer, so the next run after an improvement is a fresh one.

> **Note** - Same input means the same document, not the same file
>
> Exporting your resume twice produces two files that differ byte for byte even when nothing in them
> changed, so a check on raw bytes would charge you twice for one document. What counts is the parsed
> document - so re-uploading the same resume is recognised as the same resume.

## The daily allowance on a free-daily tool

One run a day without an account, four a day signed in - **per tool**, not shared between them, and
it resets at midnight UTC.

That gap is the honest answer to "why sign in" on those pages. Credits cannot buy a run on a tool
priced at zero, so there is no way to pay past the anonymous limit - signing in is the only thing
that raises it.

## When something goes wrong

- **A run that fails does not cost you.** Credits are held while the tool runs and released if it
  cannot produce a result.
- **If you were charged for a run that failed**, the line in [your credits statement](https://www.revquix.com/dashboard/credits) identifies that exact run.
  Quote it when you contact us.
- **A tool that returns nothing useful** is not the same as one that failed. Some tools deliberately
  return a marked gap rather than inventing content - that is a real result, and it is charged.
