# Profile visibility

> Three levels of discoverability, what each one actually changes, and the thing none of them do.

**If nobody can find you, or you want to be less findable**, this is the setting. Discovery
visibility controls how people find you on Revquix. Three settings:

| Setting                   | What it means                                                                                                    |
| ------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Discoverable**          | You appear in search and browse - by skill, by company, by name. The default.                                    |
| **Findable by name only** | You do not appear when anyone browses or filters. Someone searching your exact name or username still finds you. |
| **Hidden**                | You appear in no search at all. Your profile still works for anyone you send the link to.                        |

## What it changes, and what it does not

> **Warning** - ⚠ None of these make your profile private

> Your profile page stays open at its URL at every setting. Visibility controls whether Revquix
> _surfaces_ you; it does not put a lock on the page. Anyone with the link - or a search engine that
> has already indexed it - reaches it exactly as before.

That distinction is the whole point of this page. Even **Hidden** sounds like privacy and is not - it
takes you out of every search, and leaves the page itself exactly as open as it was. It is a
discovery preference, not a lock.

## Choosing

**Discoverable** if you want anything from the platform - mentoring, being contacted, being found for
work. Turning discovery down while hoping to be found is the commonest self-inflicted problem here.

**Findable by name** while job-hunting quietly. People you have told can find you; browsing does not
surface you.

**Hidden** when you want the profile to exist as a link you hand out and nothing more. Note what this
one costs: nobody reaches you by searching your own name either, so a recruiter you have not
personally sent the link to has no way to arrive.

## If you mentor

> **Note** - Active mentors are always discoverable, and cannot change this
>
> The control is there but disabled, with the reason shown next to it. A mentor who cannot be found is
> a storefront with the lights off, and the marketplace cannot both sell your services and hide you.
