# Identity and photos

> Your name, headline, avatar and cover image - the parts of a profile people judge before they read anything.

The identity band is the top of your profile: photo, name, headline, location. It is the only part
guaranteed to be read.

## Your headline

One line, and the hardest thing on the page to write well.

> **Note** - A headline is an offer, not a job title
>
> "Senior Backend Engineer" tells a visitor your rank. "Backend engineer who has scaled payments to a
> million orders a day" tells them what you know. The second is what makes someone book a session or
> read further.

If you mentor, the headline is doing sales work. If you are job-hunting, it is doing positioning
work. Either way, "Software Engineer" is a wasted line.

## Your avatar

Upload and crop in place - the cropper is square because that is how the avatar renders everywhere on
the platform.

- **Your face, looking at the camera.** A logo or an illustration reads as a placeholder.
- **Plain background.** It renders small in most places.
- **Recent.** People meet you after seeing it.

## Your cover image

The banner behind the identity band. Optional, and it is decoration rather than content - nothing
important should live in it, because it crops differently on a phone.

> **Warning** - Check the mobile preview after setting a cover
>
> The crop is much tighter there. A cover with text or a logo positioned for desktop frequently loses
> it on the width most visitors use.

## Location

Used for display, and it feeds discovery when you are visible - see [profile visibility](https://www.revquix.com/docs/account/profile-visibility). A city is enough; a
full address is neither asked for nor wanted.
