Under **Security → Privacy & Data**, you can request a copy of the data your account holds.

## How it works

1. **Request the export.** It is not instant - the data is gathered in the background.
2. **You are told when it is ready.**
3. **Download it.** The link is valid for **24 hours**.

> **Warning** - The download link expires after 24 hours
>
> Not the data - the link. If you miss the window, request a fresh export; nothing is lost. The limit
> exists because an export is a single file containing everything about you, and a link that lived
> forever would be a permanent copy of your account sitting behind a URL.

## What is in it

The information your account holds - your profile and its sections, your activity, and the records
attached to what you have done on the platform.

Because it is everything in one file, treat the download as sensitive: it is more concentrated than
anything visible on your profile.

## What it is for

- **Keeping your own copy**, particularly of work you have written.
- **Data-protection requests**, which is why it is self-service rather than something you ask for.
- **Before deleting your account** - see below, because deletion is not reversible.

> **Note** - Export before you delete, not after
>
> Once a deletion completes there is nothing left to export. If you think you might want the record,
> request the export first and confirm it downloaded.

- [What is public](https://www.revquix.com/docs/account/what-is-public) - A different question - what others see.
