# Deleting your account

> Deletion is scheduled rather than immediate - you get 14 days to change your mind, and some things must be settled first.

**If you want to leave Revquix and close your account for good**, this is how. Deletion is
deliberate, reversible for a while, and then final.

Under **Security → Privacy & Data**.

## It is scheduled, not instant

Requesting deletion **schedules** it. Your account is then removed after a **14-day grace period**.

> **Note** - You can cancel during those 14 days
>
> Signing in during the grace period lets you stop it. The window exists because account deletion is
> the one action with no undo, and people request it while upset, or by mistake, or before realising
> they needed something out of it first.

Confirming requires a code, and that code is short-lived - if you leave the confirmation sitting for
a while, ask for a fresh one.

## What has to be settled first

Deletion is refused while you have **an active order in progress**. That is not obstruction: an order
in flight has a counterparty, money and possibly a session still to happen, and deleting the account
mid-way would leave the other person with no route to a resolution.

Let the order complete, or cancel it, and try again.

## What deletion actually does

- Your **public profile stops resolving** - the URL 404s.
- Your **content is removed** from where it was published.
- Your **username is not released.** Nobody else can take it, and neither can you if you come back.

> **Warning** - After 14 days it is not reversible
>
> Not by you and not by support. There is no archived copy to restore from - that is the point of a
> deletion. If there is anything you want, export it first: [exporting your data](https://www.revquix.com/docs/account/exporting-your-data).

## Things that are not deletion

- **Wanting to disappear from search** - that is [profile visibility](https://www.revquix.com/docs/account/profile-visibility).
- **Wanting your profile empty** - turn sections off, see [ordering your profile](https://www.revquix.com/docs/account/ordering-your-profile).
- **Wanting to stop the email** - that is notification preferences in [preferences](https://www.revquix.com/docs/account/preferences).

Each of those is reversible and deletion is not, so it is worth being sure which one you actually
want.

- [Exporting your data](https://www.revquix.com/docs/account/exporting-your-data) - Do this first.

- [Profile visibility](https://www.revquix.com/docs/account/profile-visibility) - If you only want to be less findable.
